Add Blocks
- In the menu bar at the top of your course page, select Turn Editing On (top right corner).
- Scroll down to the bottom of the left-hand column to find the Add a Block block
- Click the Add… to get a list of available blocks.
- Select a block to add from the drop-down menu.
- Depending on which blocks are already used in your course, the drop-down list will change to show only available blocks. There can only be one instance of most blocks in a course, the exception is the HTML block.
- Once you have selected the type of block to add, the page will re-load and your new block will be added at the bottom of the left-hand column. The block can be moved as appropriate.
Text Blocks
- The Text block type allows you to create unique blocks that can contain a variety of HTML content including video, text, links, images, etc..
- Text blocks can be used for a variety of functions from posting office hours, MS Teams Meeting links, Textbook links, or other pertinent information.
To add and configure an HTML block ...
- Follow the steps in Add Block

Select Text from the “ADD A BLOCK” menu.
- A new block will appear with the title New Text Block
- Click on the Block Action icon to access the action menu
- Select Configure New Text Block
- In the window that opens, add the Text Block Title
- Add Content
- Update settings to show where the block will display
- Save Changes
- Move the Text block if necessary
Move/Reorder Blocks
- In the menu bar at the top of your course page, select Turn Editing On (top right corner).
- Use the “cross” or “plus” icon to drag a block up and down the left-hand column of the course page.
OR
- Click on the Block Action icon to access the action menu
- Select Configure NAME Block
- Set Default Region and Region both to Side Pre
- Set the Default Weight and Weight as appropriate. Note, once saved, you may need to adjust this depending on what was been set for other blocks.
- Save Changes
Configure Blocks
- Click on the Block Action icon to access the action menu
- Select Configure NAME Block
- Set the Display on Page Type
- Any Page puts the block will show on all course activity and resource pages
- Any Course Page AND Any Type of Course Main Page puts the block on the course main page only.
- Set Default Region and Region both to Side Pre
- Set the Default Weight and Weight as appropriate. Note, once saved, you may need to adjust this depending on what was been set for other blocks.
- Set the Visible to 'Yes' if the block is to be available for students.
- Save Changes
Hide/Show Blocks
- In the menu bar at the top of your course page, select Turn Editing On (top
right corner).
- Click on the Block Action icon for the block you wish to hide, to access the action menu
- Select the Hide Name Block option from the action drop-down menu
- The course page will refresh with the block minimized and greyed-out to indicate it is not visible to students
- To make a hidden block visible to students, repeat the above procedure, then on the drop-down list, select the Show Name Block
Delete Blocks
- n the menu bar at the top of your course page, select Turn Editing On (top
right corner).
- Click on the Block Action icon for the block you wish to hide, to access the action menu
- Select the Delete Name Block option from the action drop-down menu
- You will be prompted to Confirm the deletion; click Yes to confirm. You can re-add a deleted block, but you will need to reconfigure any settings changed from the defaults.
