Messaging a Class

To send a group message to your course, go to Course Administration > Users > Enrolled Users:

Tip: Use the filters to ensure you are only messaging students or specific groups. Filter by Roles > Student to see students-only. 

 

To select all - ensure you can see your full student list and select the checkbox at the top of the list:

From the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page, select Send a Message.


 

Add your message in the box that opens.  When you are done, click the Send Message to N People:



IMPORTANT:  Make sure to tell your students to either Message you directly or to send you an email, since they will NOT be able to reply to the message notification email they received with your message.

Using the Messages System

Step 1: Access your Messaging system

Option A: Open your messaging pop-up using the message symbol in header

Option B: Open your messaging system as a full window using the Menu option

Step 2: View your Messages and Contacts

Once the messaging pop-out or page is opened, you will be able to see all your messages and contacts.

Step 3: Send a message

To message any of your contacts, including your instructors, click on the Contacts link below the search bar, then search for the person you want to message.

If you don't have any contacts and see "No Contacts," use the search option to find the person you want to message.

 Select the person you want to contact, type your message, and click the Send icon: 


Step 4: Delete a message

Select the message you wish to delete, it will be highlighted in red. Select the trashcan that appears at the bottom. 

  

You can delete a whole conversation by selecting the three dots next to the conversation title and then "Delete Conversation".

Modifying Notification Preferences

Your Messaging notifications can be partially modified using the settings gear in your Messages window. You can set more notifications preferences using your profile settings feature.


Managing Contacts

Add and Delete contacts

You can add a contact from an existing chat by using the drop-down to select "Add to contacts".
Users will be prompted to accept your Contact request.

Once added, you can delete a contact by opening their chat and using the edit drop-down to select "Remove from contacts".


View Contacts and Contact Requests

Open the Contacts window: Within the "Contacts" window you can view current contact requests sent to you by other COTROnline users as well as delete your existing contacts.

Delete a contact: You can delete a contact by selecting them from your contacts list
