Have you reviewed your old Kaltura videos recently?

The Kaltura platform is a Content Delivery system, not a Content Storage system. As such, we have limited server space to store and process all videos in COTROnline courses. That limited space is being overused currently.

Our Kaltura Management plan involves removing all videos that meet the following criteria:

  1. The video was uploaded prior to January 1, 2022
  2. There are no recorded views of the video in the past three years - meaning the video has not been watched by either the owner nor any student
  3. The video is not linked to an existing COTROnline course - meaning the video is not currently in use in a COTROnline course from the past three years

You can help us out by reviewing your own videos via the MediaSpace interface and filtering your videos to show videos older than Jan 1 2022 and no-views:

  1. Step 1: Go to the COTROnline Media Space: https://mediaspace.cotr.bc.ca
  2. Step 2: Log in by selecting “My Media” and then using your COTR credentials to log in when prompted. This will open your Media Manager with ALL of your media entries.
*Click on “GUEST” to open menu
    Login dropdown in MediaSpace
  3. Step 3: Search for the video you want to review
Open the Filters menu dropdown in order to assist in sorting and searching or to review multiple files:Filters menu in MediaSpace

    Using Filter Settings

    • Set the creation date and last update date to Before January 1, 2022
    • Sort by “Plays” if you want to locate zero play entries
    • Set your View settings as appropriate
      • A Collapsed view will show titles only, a
      • Detailed view willshow the screenshot and some extra details, a
      • Table view will showdetails but no images.
  4. Step 4: Request Downloads

If you want to keep any video files for your own reference purposes, you will need to request the download link for the video file.

    1. Please take note of the filename in a list and forward the requested downloads to cotronline@cotr.bc.ca or stwietmeyer@cotr.bc.ca.
    2. You will receive an email containing the download list.
    3. Per IT services' request, make sure you save your downloaded videos in your Sharepoint/OneDrive cloud or on an external hard drive as your COTR computer does not have enough storage space for multiple video files.
